The Walmart Bass Fishing League is predicted to hold a bass fishing tournament on Saturday, September 8, 2012 in Rockwood, Tennessee. The bass fishing tournament is intended for recreational anglers and sports a total prize purse in excess of $9,000. Here are a few more details:
Bass Fishing Tournament Basics
The Walmart Bass Fishing League's tournament is expected to take place at Tom Fuller Park located on Eureka Road in Rockwood. Participating anglers are expected to launch their fishing boats at 7:30 a.m. Weigh-in is scheduled to occur at 3:30 p.m. at the same location.
Anglers interested in fishing in the tournament must pre-register, remit a fee and attend an obligatory meeting. Co-anglers may expect to pay a $150 entry fee whereas boaters may expect to pay a $300 entry fee. Participating anglers are also required to be in possession of a valid Tennessee fishing license. Tennessee fishing licenses are available for purchase through the Rockwood Walmart located on North Gateway Avenue. A three day, non-resident fishing license costs roughly $34.
Pre-registration may be completed on Friday, September 7, 2012, from 4 p.m. until 6:00 p.m., at the Rockwood Walmart. The 6:30 p.m., mandatory, pre-tournament meeting is expected to take place there as well. Interested anglers that want to get a jump on things may also opt to register for the bass fishing tournament via the FLW's website.
About the Venue
Tom Fuller Park offers visiting anglers access to a boat ramp and Watts Bar Lake. Boaters will find several marinas located on Watts Bar Lake that sell boat fuel and rent boat slips. Among them are the Euchee Marina, the Spring City Marina and the Blue Springs Marina. Nautical charts for Watts Bar Lake are available through the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers' Nashville District's website. Campgrounds, cottages and other lodging options are located nearby.
Fishing Forecast
As of Wednesday, August 8, 2012, the tailwater level at Watts Bar Lake was at 683.13 feet MSL. The surface water temperature was purportedly 80 degrees Fahrenhient. Those conditions are expected to continue through early September 2012. I should also mention that a last quarter moon is predicted to occur on Saturday, September 8, 2012. As such, anglers may want to consider targeting the dam area, deep water ledges and structures. Deep diving crankbaits, live minnows, spinners and creature lures should prove to be productive.
