PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - Rhode Island is offering a weekend of free freshwater fishing to lure residents and visitors to the state's ponds, lakes and rivers.
The state's Department of Environmental Management says no fishing license will be required for freshwater fishing on Saturday and Sunday.
The state plans to hold a fishing tournament Saturday at Meadowbrook Pond in Richmond. The state will make fishing rods and bait available for children.
The state began the free fishing program 20 years ago as a way to highlight outdoor activities in the state.
Saltwater fishing will still require a license.
