Anna and Dan Grinder, along with their children, Courtlan, age 14, and Jackson, age 11, and Anna?s brother, Champ Delashmutt along with his son, Jacob, age 10, chartered the Happy Day Today along with the Topshotfishing team to do some deep sea sport fishing in Fort Lauderdale, FL. Winds were out of the east at 12 mph, seas running 3-4 ft. with blue skies.

It is always good to see old customers returning for another fishing charter, especially, when it?s the 4th generation fishing. I remember Anna and Champ going fishing with their father and grandfather aboard the Happy Day Today when they were kids, and now they are parents themselves taking their children fishing.

Fifteen minutes after leaving the dock, lines were in 120 ft. of water at the sea buoy in Fort Lauderdale. We put two #8 plainers down, one with a 3 ? blue reflector drone spoon and the other with a pink and blue sea witch in front of a double hook Bonito. For surface baits we had two Bonito strips with sea witches in front and two Ballyhoos.

While all three children were excited waiting for their first fish, the plainer rod bent over. Cartiam was our first angler as he reeled in a 10 lb. Bonito. From there the action started ? Jackson was the next angler on the plainer rod - we decided to leave the plainer rod in the covering board to make it easier for him to reel in. He was rewarded with a Black Fin Tuna. Next up was Jacob and we repeated the process of leaving the rod in the holder ? he caught another Bonito. Everybody took their turns including mom and dad and wound up with eight Bonitos, three Tunas and one Kingfish which will be served for dinner that night. I was pleased to have the fourth generation of this family fishing with me, and look forward to seeing them again soon.

All anglers retired into the a/c salon aboard the Happy Day Today for the trip back to the dock at Bahia Mar 801 Seabreeze Blvd. Fort Lauderdale 33316.

Judy and Carl Ods, along with their children, Liz and Carl, Jr., and friend, John, from Michigan were vacationing in Fort Lauderdale, FL and chartered the Happy Day Today along with the Topshotfishing team to do some deep sea sport fishing. The winds were out of the east at 7 mph, seas running 2-3 ft. with blue skies.

Mr. Ods told me that his son, Carl Jr., had been talking about catching a Shark for the past few weeks, so that was our target for this charter. For the past couple of weeks, large migrations of Sharks (Hammerhead, Mako, Bull, Lemon, Tiger and Thresher) have been passing by Fort Lauderdale in approximately 350 ft of water.

We left the dock and twenty minutes later lines were in the water at the Shark grounds that are in 350 ft. of water off of Fort Lauderdale, FL. We put out three Shark baits ? a surface, mid-range and bottom ? and waited for his arrival. Thirty minutes into it, we were hooked up on our mid-range bait as line peeled off of the 80 International Penn reel and then in a split second it went slack ? pulled hook!! We reset again and waited. Then the rod with the bottom Shark bait bent over and line screamed off the reel ? looks like a solid hook up!!!! Carl, Jr. hopped into the fighting chair to do battle, while we cleared the rest of the tackle. Even though he had youth on his side and was in excellent shape, the strength of the Shark and the fifty minute tug of war was whittling him down. He was ready to surrender, but, Mark, our mate and everyone else on board the boat gave him a pep talk on not quitting and it worked because twenty minutes later he brought the estimated 350 lb. Hammerhead Shark measuring 126? long to the side of the boat for picture taking and release. As well deserved, congratulations were given to Carl, Jr. by all!!!!! His family knew that his plans tonight would be staying in the hotel room resting and recharging his batteries.

Everyone retired into the a/c salon aboard the Happy Day Today for the trip back to the dock at Bahia Mar 801 Seabreeze Blvd. Fort Lauderdale 33316.

A friend of mine from Round-Up Country Western dance club, Mark Lashua, and his brother, Mike, along with friends, Alex and Chris, all from Fort Lauderdale chartered the Happy Day Today along with the Topshotfishing team to do some deep sea sport fishing in Fort Lauderdale, FL. Winds were out of the north, northeast at 11 mph with seas running 3-4 ft. and blue skies this afternoon. The goal of this trip was to find a large Shark for Mark to do battle with.

Fifteen minutes after leaving the dock, we were in 120 ft. of water by the sea buoy in Fort Lauderdale. We started off trolling with two plainers down, one with a 3 ? blue reflector drone spoon and the other with a double hook Bonito strip with a pink and blue sea witch in front. For surface baits we went with two Bonito strips and two Ballyhoos. Everybody took turns catching fish (Tunas and Bonitos) before heading out to the Shark grounds which are located in 375 ft. of water off of Fort Lauderdale. In the past three charters we have caught three Sharks in this area ? hoping for number four. We put out Shark baits - one surface, one mid-range and one bottom - and one kite with two live Goggle Eyes. After a twenty-five minute wait, the bell went off and the fight began!!!! The surface bait screamed line off of the 80 International Pen Reel ? Mark?s request was being answered. He jumped into the fighting chair, strapped in to do battle. With a tug of war going on for fifty minutes, finally he was rewarded with a Hammerhead Shark in the 250 lb. class. Mark, our mate, grabbed the leader for picture taking and the Shark was released to fight again.

With a sore arm from his battle, Mark and the rest of the anglers retired into the a/c salon aboard the Happy Day Today for the trip back to the dock at Bahia Mar 801 Seabreeze Blvd. Fort Lauderdale 33316.

A family from Maryland, Daniel Hearn, father Stan, motherCarole and friend Bernell, chartered the Happy Day Today along with theTopshotfishing team to do some deep sea sport fishing in Fort Lauderdale, FL. The whole family are avid anglers, and wereenthused about on an 8 fishing hour charter here in Fort Lauderdale FL.

Winds were out of the east northeast at 8 mph, seas running3-4 ft., temperature was in the mid 80?s. We left the dock at 7:30 am and fifteen minutes later lines were in thewater as we approached the sea buoy in Fort Lauderdale in 120 ft. of water. We put two plainers down, one with a doublehook Bonito strip with a green and white sea witch and the other with a blackand purple sea witch. For surface baitswe had four Ballyhoos and a Ballyhoo daisy chain teaser. With the fish gods on the angler?s side, westarted off with a bang, catching one Kingfish after another after another, winding up with eight Kingfish, which we kept and releasing 18 Kingfish. From there I could see some birds working thearea off shore, so we trolled towards the birds. As I got close I could see a school of Mullets migrating to the south, which isa good indication that the predators will not be too far behind. We wound up catching four Tunas and twoBonitos in this area.

I kept working the area and one of the plainer rods bentover with the line exiting at an extremely fast rate and the rod tip bouncingup and down, which is a strong indication we had a Wahoo on the line. Stan reeled in the fastest fish in the ocean,a Wahoo, which are recorded at 64 mph. Jackson, our mate, leaned over the side to gaff the vertical stripe, jawsnapping Wahoo, weighing 24 lbs. We keptworking the area ? again the tell tale sign of a Wahoo appeared as Danielreeled in another Wahoo weighing 28 lbs.

From there we went wreck fishing and we brought it oneAmberjack and eight Snappers.

With a smile on the angler?s faces and the fish box full offish to be brought back to Maryland, everyone retired to the a/c salon for theride back to the dock at Bahia Mar 801 Seabreeze Blvd. Fort Lauderdale 33316.

Wahooo Fishing Fort Lauderdale Happy Day Today

Fishing Fort Lauderdale on Happy Day Today with Capt. Zsak

Mike and Linda Ganje took advantage of their last chance toenjoy warm weather here in sunny Fort Lauderdale by going deep sea sportfishing in Fort Lauderdale FL aboard the Happy Day Today along with theTopshotfishing team before going back home to Minnesota.

With blue skies, winds out of the north at 12 mph, temperature in the mid 80?s, 2-3 ft. seas, we left the dock at Bahia Mar Marinaand 15 minutes later lines were in the water at the sea buoy in Fort Lauderdalewhich is 120 ft deep. If you venture offanother ? of a mile from the sea buoy, the depth of water will read 500 ft.

Our first north winds triggered the migration of Mulletscoming south down the coast, sited from shore out to 180 ft. of water. We have 34 artificial wrecks for fishing herein Fort Lauderdale, FL which attract bait fish and in return thepredators are not too far away.

We put two plainers down, both with double hook Bonitostrips with sea witches, and for surface baits we went with two Bonito strips, two Ballyhoos and a Ballyhoo daisy chain teaser. I fished over one wreck after another asLinda and Michael both took turns catching and bringing in the fish. I headed out to one of our deeper artificialwrecks that sits in 280 ft. of water. AsI approached the wreck, the depth recorder revealed a school of fish 110 ftabove the wreck. I took one engine outof gear and kept the other just idling so that the baits would sink downdeeper, as we picked away at the school of Kingfish over thewreck. Suddenly, one of our plainerrods bent over, hooked up, as the line screamed of the reel and then the rodtip started bouncing up and down. Withexcellent Wahoo fishing this week and the sight of the rod going up and down, wasa tell tale sign of a Wahoo hooked up, Michael was our angler, and he retrieved the line ? twenty minuteslater, the deep blue-purple torpedo appeared, with the silver vertical stripsflashing back and forth from side to side as he shaked his head. Jackson, our mate, started to wire the Wahoobut the Wahoo was not ready yet as he screamed line off again. After the second attempt, Jackson leaned over the side and gaffed the58? Wahoo, as his jaws exposed his razor sharp teeth.

With 8 Kingfish, 1 Barracuda, 3 Bonitos and a 41 lb. Wahoo,it was time to return to the dock while Mike and Linda retired to the a/c salonfor the ride back to the dock at Bahia Mar 801 Seabreeze Blvd. Fort Lauderdale 33316.

Fort Lauderdale Fishing Happy Day Today

Darrell Seybold along with his sons, 10 year old Elijah andolder brother Nathaniel, from Texas charteredthe Happy Day Today along with the Topshotfishing team to do some deep seasport fishing in Fort Lauderdale, FL. His wife dropped them off at the dock andplanned an excursion for herself to the shopping mall with credit card in herhand.

Young Elijah was very enthusiastic about his fishing tripand Dad told me that was all he spoke about. We had winds out of the east at 5 mph, seasrunning 2-3 ft, temperature in the mid 80?s, and fifteen minutes after leavingthe dock fishing lines were in the water. I told Elijah on the way out, the tradition for fishing in Fort Lauderdale is thatyou must call the fish; he asked me how and I told him the secret ? you callout, ?here fishy, fishy?.

With lines in the water, he kept repeating, ?here fishy, fishy?, and low and behold it worked as he reeled in his first Kingfish. I worked the drop off, which is located in120 ft. of water, less than 2 miles off of Fort Lauderdale, FL,while the two boys alternated bringing in the fish and Dad worked the camerataking pictures of the boys in action. As I made one of my swings heading off of 70 ft. of water, a blackshadow appeared ? !!!Sailfish!!!! - on the long left rigger chasing down aswimming Ballyhoo. Jackson, our mate, dropped the bait back to the Sailfish and hooked up. Immediately, the Sailfish came out of thewater showing us his spectacular power and brilliant neon colors for a shorttime before throwing the hook. Elijahremarked it was so close to shore to which I responded that there are no fencesout here, the predators can go swimming anywhere they want.

With a total of 8 Kingfish, 3 Bonitos, and 3 Barracudas theboys along with their father retired to the a/c salon for the ride back to thedock at Bahia Mar 801 Seabreeze Blvd. Fort Lauderdale 33316.

Fort Lauderdale Fishing Happy Day Today

From Russia Dimce Kosevskl and Martin Cvetanovski, alongwith their friends came to Fort Lauderdale, FL toenjoy our subtropics weather here in our sunny state. They chartered the HappyDay Today along with the Topshotfishing team to do some deep sea sport fishingin Fort Lauderdale, FL.

With two cases of beers and food to last for a week, we wereoff to ?Gilligan?s Island? (hahaha) for a fourhour ?adventurous? fishing charter. Halfof a case of beer was gone by the time we had fishing lines in the water, whichwas 15 minutes after leaving the dock. We put one plainer down with a chartreuse sea witch in front of a doublehook Bonito strip, four Ballyhoos for surface baits with a one ? ounce japfeather down the center and a Ballyhoo dredge teaser.

As I was trolling north of the sea buoy in Fort Lauderdale on the reef, I could see somebirds working a color change to the east. I approached the color change and found wood floating in it - it surelooked good for catching some Mahi Mahi. As I trolled north on the color change, a school of Green Hornetsattacked the Ballyhoo teaser and the anglers caught four Mahi Mahi?s, but theywere just undersized so we threw them back. We kept trolling the area and caught a total of 7 Bonitos, 4 Tunas and 1small Wahoo, which was returned to the waters.

With the beer evaporated and time running out, it was timeto head back to the dock at Bahia Mar 801 Seabreeze Blvd. Fort Lauderdale33316.

Wahoo Fishing Fort Lauderdale Happy Day Today

Fishing Fort Lauderdale on Happy Day Today with Capt. Zsak

Uncle and nephew, Anton Axefors and Lars Ekbers from Sweden were vacationing and visiting relativeshere in Fort Lauderdale. Their outdoor expedition included a visit to Holiday Parkin Everglades Cityto see the gators and a deep sea sport fishing charter with the Happy Day Todayalong with the Topshotfishing team in Fort Lauderdale, FL.

We had intermittent showers, along with the sun popping up;the temperature was in the mid 80?s, winds were out of the east at 10 mph, 2-3foot seas. These Swedish anglers havehad experience fishing in other oceans and were excited to encounter differentfishing techniques here in South Florida.

Fifteen minutes after leaving the dock at Bahia Mar, lineswere in the water in 120 ft. at the sea buoy in Fort Lauderdale. We put down a #8 plainer with a 3 ? bluereflector drone spoon and five surface baits and a Ballyhoo dredge teaser. I started trolling crisscrossing the reef indepth of water ranging from 80 ft out to 200 ft. Our first strike was a Bonito in the 12 lb.range, followed by a few more Bonitos and a 16 lb. Kingfish.

From there I could see a color change running off to thenortheast of Fort Lauderdale. As I headed towards it, I could see the ripforming as the water was swirling around, which is an excellent avenue tofollow. With debris and bait fishpresent, the area looked very promising. Our left outrigger came down as Lars reeled in a Black Fin Tuna. As we kept trolling, we caught a total ofthree Tunas and two Barracudas. As Ikept working the color change/rip, a black shadow appeared on the dredge teaser? Sailfish. Jackson, our mate, dropped abait back to the Sailfish and on the 3rd attempt, we were hookedup. The Sailfish exited the water andtail-walked away from the boat showing his magnificent color and power. Ten minutes into the battle, the line wentslack as he dislodged the hook. As wetrolled again, this time the plainer rod bent over and the rod tip bounced upand down erratically, a tell tale sign it was a Wahoo. Anton was the angler and fifteen minuteslater Jacksongaffed the Wahoo weighing 21 lbs.

With happy smiles on their faces, the anglers retired to thea/c salon for the ride back to the dock at BahiaMar 801 Seabreeze Blvd. Fort Lauderdale 33316.

Who's happy with the 2012 Elite schedule?

Dean Rojas, for one.

Rojas owns wins at Toledo Bend and Oneida Lake, two of the eight stops on the slate in 2012 for the Bassmaster Elite Series. But he likes every fishery on the newly announced schedule.

"With the exception of one, I've had a Top-10 finish at each one of them," said Rojas, a Bassmaster Elite Series pro from Lake Havasu City, Ariz. "I liked the 2011 schedule, but I like this one even better."

The "exception" is the Mississippi River out of La Crosse, Wis.

"It's an unknown to me, and that's the beauty of it," he said. "I won't go in with preconceived notions. And I can enjoy anticipating what's around every corner."

Rojas' high satisfaction with the new schedule comes in no small part from the June stop at Toledo Bend Reservoir. That's where he won in 2011 and secured his fourth Bassmaster title and a berth in the 2012 Bassmaster Classic. The win was all the sweeter because it came early in the season, thus eliminating a three-month sweat for a Classic qualification.

Rojas had another win on Toledo Bend, a February 2001 victory in a Bassmaster Top 150. He noted that the 2012 schedule will take the Elite Series corps to The Bend in June.

"Every time I've done well there, it's always been springtime. It's going to be a different lake with that different timing," he cautioned.

If he had to pick a favorite, it would be Oneida Lake, he said. The upstate New York lake was the site of his 2008 Elite Series win, a third place in a 2009 Elite Series event, and a fourth in a 2007 Bassmaster Major.

Oneida's Aug. 23-26 slot in the 2012 schedule doesn't mirror the timing of his Aug. 10, 2008, win, he noted, but it's close enough.

"The bass will still be in their summer haunts. That isn't likely to change until mid-September," he said.

He hasn't been fishing on Oneida since 2009, but he made a point to drive over it twice when his travels brought him near.

What did a few minutes on a bridge do for him?

"Well, it made me feel really good to see 'my' lake again," he said, laughing. "It fishes a lot like Lake Havasu, the way it's laid out, so I feel so comfortable there."

Rojas watchers could consider Douglas Lake in Tennessee (May 3-6) as his third-strongest "like" of 2012. There he earned a second-place finish to Rick Clunn's 2001 win in a Bassmaster Megabucks event. But, of course, there's Elite Series pro Ott DeFoe to consider on Douglas. Because he lives there, DeFoe will be the all-out favorite.

And then there's the "mystery" stop, a TBA site to be slotted into the schedule on June 28-July 1, between La Crosse and New York. Rojas gives the concept of a mystery lake another nod.

"I like that," he said. "But you know, I take them one at a time. Right now, it's the first up that I'm most looking forward to, and that's the Classic and the Red River."

He hasn't been back to compete on the Red since the Bassmaster Classic in 2009, in which he finished 18th. He's planning a late fall scouting trip, he said.
